life on the farm

Sanibonani!

that's hello (plural) in siSwati. We are fine and living on a farm for the duration of our 2-month training. They've given us a house with electricity and running water (except on weekends, when the water is off) and we're very comfortable. our babe (father/head of home) is a farmer, and we live amongst a lot of animals: chickens, goats, cows, pig, rabbits, doves, and plenty of dogs. They grow corn-- though it's currently winter-- and have a garden, fruit trees and a huge avocado tree. our village is called eKhiza, and about 10 other Peace Corps trainees live/train there. We're learning language, culture, and technical/project-related stuff. current favorite thing about Swaziland: the avocados. They're enormous, plentiful, and oh so good. We eat very well: fresh chicken, rice, palishi, cabbage, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, spinach, oranges and lemons... and cornflakes.
another favorite thing in Ekhiza: sunrises.

right now we're passing thru the larger town of Manzini, on our way to "shadow" a Peace Corps volunteer at her site for a few days/nights. gotta run! Love to you all!

Lovely post. It's so nice to picture you both there amongst the farm life... and the avocados!! I'm very, very jealous. Jamie girl, it sounds like you won't have too many food issues!

It's a boy! Well, ok you knew that. Gabriel Shane Logan was born July 14, 8 lbs... and is very healthy, they say he looks like Shawn. Freya had some complications and they were nervous for a bit. I think she's still in the hospital or maybe just got home. Carmen went over for a month, so Shawn could get back to work. There are pictures on some website, which we haven't gotten word on yet. Will put it here for you when we do. So now you can tell those youngsters you're old enough to be a great uncle! (Mom & Dad are in OR till 7/28). Love you!

Sounds like a great time and way better food than my PC days. Thinking of you from here in the chilly NW.

Hey Jaimies!

Great to hear of your life a month ago! I hope you have a chance to load up some photos so we can get a thousand words.

Tricia and I just climbed Mt. Baker with her (almost) 60 year old mom! Then there's also the house - coming along fine (check out our blog).

That is great that you are so close to your food. Enjoy life on the farm!

So did you guys go on the shopping spree with King Mswati III's wives? If you did, did you buy me any avocados?

Hi guys - miss you, hope you're still enjoying life on the farm. We've been OD'ing on the Olympics - Tivo'd about 4 shows a day, still trying to get through them the week after it's over! Looks like Swaziland had 4 athletes there (no medals).

Let us know if you need us to do anything at all back here. Love you guys, write when you get a chance.
